Biography
A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, soprano Julie Ryning began her studies in the studio of Marisa Gaetanne at Vancouver Community College. Currently, she is completing a Master's degree in Early Music voice performance under the direction of Thérèse Boudreault-Sevadjian and Suzie Leblanc at McGill University, having completed an honours undergraduate degree in the same. During her studies at McGill, Julie had the opportunity to sing in Masterclass for many of the world's leading Early Music artists, such as James Bowman, Charles Daniels, Ellen Hargis, Monika Mauch, Alexander Weimann, and Emma Kirkby. While in Montreal, she has performed with some of the city's finest early music ensembles, including La Chappelle du Quebec under Bernard Labadie, and Le Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montreal (SMAM), with Christopher Jackson, and can be heard on SMAM's upcoming CD with ATMA records later this year.
In addition to her work in Early Music, Julie has also had the pleasure of working with Canadian composer Dr. David Gordon Duke, and premiered his most recent work, Lines from George Gordon, Lord Byron, which was written for her in 2007. She has also enjoyed working in the world of film, and can be heard in the Leo award-winning score of the Canadian short, The Road that Binds Us.
