Nicholas Csicsko’s Nocturne, music evocative of the night, continues the tradition of the genre started by John Field and then carried forward by Chopin, Schumann, Lizst, Debussy, Poulenc, and many others. Although the tradition of “night music” goes back even further, this specific genre is most popular in piano literature. The work is in ABA form like the Schumann, and moves between feelings of longing and joy. I have been asking for a piece from Nick for the past 6 years and am so thrilled to premier it today.
