Biography
Born in 1989, the French violist Adrien La Marca started to learn music at the age of six at Aix-en-Provence. In 2005, he won the first prize of the French national Young Violists competition; the same year, he joined the Paris conservatoire in Jean Sulem’s class. At the same time, during the summer 2008, he is invited to take part in the international Music Academy of Seiji Ozawa, in Switzerland. There, he worked with Robert Mann, Pamela Franck, Nobuko Imaï, Sadao Harada and Seiji Ozawa. After receiving his Master degree, he entered the Artist diploma courses in Paris. He also studies with Tatjana Masurenko since 2009 in Leipzig.
During his musical development, Adrien has been inspired and worked with artists such as Nobuko Imaï, Lawrence Power, Hatto Beyerle, Antoine Tamestit and Yuri Bashmet. Since 2004 he participated in numerous festivals like the Merrick Festival in Miami, Les Nuits pianistiques in Aix-en-Provence, Jeunes Talents in Paris, Folle journée in Nantes, Musica in Strasbourg, the Grange de Meslay Festival, created by S. Richter, in Tours, festivals in Cordes-Sur-Ciel, Deauville, Saint-Côme, Bad Kissingen, Verbier and Kuhmo (Finland). He played with artists such as Alina Ibragimova, Alexandra Soumm, Franck Braley, Raphaël Pidoux, Alexandra Soumm, Andreas Brantelid, Michel Portal and the Ebène quartet.
He appeared many times in Sinfonia Concertante by Mozart with the Avignon orchestra and the Chamber orchestra of the Cervo Academy (Italy) conducted by David Geringas.
In March 2009, Adrien was selected by Gidon Kremer to take part in the “Chamber music connects the world” program. He played in chamber music with Andras Schiff, Yuri Bashmet, Frans Helmerson and Gidon Kremer.
Laureate of the “Spedidam Generation” program, in September 2009 Adrien became laureate of the 16th international Johannes Brahms competition in Austria. He also became laureate of the 10th international Lionel Tertis competition, where he got three special prizes for his interpretations of the Brahms Sonata and the compulsory piece. In Jjune 2011, Adrien became a laureate of the 13th international William Primrose, where he got a special prize for the most outstanding personality and a prize for his interpretation of the Walton concerto.
Recently, Adrien won the “Avants-Scènes” competition in Paris. This competition was open to all instruments, voice and chamber music groups. He was the first violist ever to win this competition. He played recitals in Auditorium du Musée d’orsay, Grand salon des Invalides, national Portrait Gallery in London and made his debut in Cité de la Musique playing the Walton viola concerto.
Adrien is the Laureate 2011 of the “Fondation Banque Populaire” and is supported by “L’or du rhin” foundation.
