Biography

Alessandra Maria Ammara has drawn the attention of the musical world after achieving brilliant results in some of the more important piano competitions, such as the G. B. Viotti International Piano Competition in Vercelli, Italy; J. Iturbi Competition in Valencia, Spain and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth.

In 2000 she was a Laureate of the Esther Honens International Piano Competition in Calgary, Canada, which led to her increased concert activity in Europe (the Società dei Concerti in Milan; Salle Cortot in Paris; the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; the Fryderyk Chopin Society in Warsaw; Museu Enescu in Bucarest; Schloss Husum and Brahms' House in Germany). Her North America appearances include Jack Singer Hall in Calgary; Muttart Hall in Edmonton; Bass Hall in Fort Worth; and Meridian Center in Washington. In South Africa, the Far East and Brazil, she has appeared both as a soloist and with many important orchestras including the Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai, Orquesta Ciudad de Cordoba, Calgary Philharmonic, Cape Town Philharmonic, Natal Philarmonic in Durban, Neue Philarmonie Westfalen, and the Philharmonie der Nationen.

Critics have also recognized her as a fine chamber musician. She has collaborated with many great interpreters like Alban Gerhardt, Anton Kuerti, Shauna Rolston, the Saint Laurent String Quartet, and the Takacs Quartet. For the Canadian label "Arktos," she recorded music of Debussy, Scriabin and Chopin.

Alessandra Maria Ammara graduated from the L. Cherubini Conservatory of Florence and the Accademia Pianistica of Imola. She honed her talents in some of today's most important music programs, such as the International Piano Foundation at Lake Como, and the School of Music in Fiesole, and with great musicians like Maria Tipo, Dmitri Bashkirov, Leon Fleisher, William Naboré, and Fou Ts'ong.                                               

Alessandra Ammara is often invited to give masterclasses in Europe and North America. In this capacity she has presented at Alberta College, Edmonton, Canada; Brahms-Haus, Heide, Schloss vor Husum, and Musikhalle Hamburg in Germany; and at Haverford College, and the University of Evansville in the United States.
