Alexander Jump (born 1984 in Böblingen) received his first violin lessons at the age of 5. He then studied with Miriam Fried, first at Indiana University in Bloomington, and from 2007 at the New England Conservatory in Boston. Since October 2008 he studied with Antje Weithaas at the Hochschule fur Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin. The young violinist attended numerous master classes: with Antje Haas, Mihaela Martin, Ana Chumachenco, Gyorgy Pauk, Viktor Pikaisen, Yair Kless, Zakhar Bron, Wolfgang Marschner and Shlomo Mintz.
Alexander successfully participated in a number of national (Germany)and international (Italy and France) competitions. He has won several first prizes in the "Young Musicians" category, both in the solo and ensemble playing.
As a soloist he has performed with the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, the Springfield Orchestra, Les Solistes de Bourgogne, the Loh-Orchester Sondershausen and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra under Dennis Russell Davies.
Alexander is very active in playing chamber music. In recent years, he attended prestigious chamber music festivals in Ravinia, the Taos Chamber Music Festival, Kneisel Hall (all in the U.S.), where he played with members of prominent ensembles, such as the Borromeo, Brentano, Miami and Juilliard string quartets.
Since 1999, he's supported by the German Foundation of Musical Life. He currently plays Gagliano violin, Naples 17? 4, on loan from the foundation.
