Biography

A prodigious pianist in every sense of the word, the young Russian-born Alexander Romanovsky's astonishing accomplishments, exceptional maturity, unmatched virtuosic technique and a rare passion for music that is evident in every single touch of the keyboard, has the critics and the piano world speculating him to be the next heir to the Great Russian tradition that brought forth the likes of Vladimir Horowitz and Sviatoslav Richter. In fact, when compared to the great Horowitz by at Italian critic (Umberto Martinelli), the young Romanovsky was pronounced: "indeed, a bit better". His wide recognition is not just limited to press, but also includes the music community: renowned conductor Tamás Vásáry proclaimed Romanovsky "one of the greatest virtuosos of our time". Having shown an extraordinary musical talent since childhood, Romanovsky gave his concerto debut at the age of nine, and was touring as soloist with Vladimir Spivakov and the Moscow Virtuosi by age eleven, performing in Kiev, the Baltic States, France, as well as with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Upon moving to Imola, Italy to study with Leonid Margarius, protégé of Regina Horowitz - sister of the legendary Vladimir, Romanovsky was bestowed upon an honor that was only received by two other musicians before him - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Gioacchino Rossini: at the age of fifteen, Romanovsky was awarded an "Honoris Causa" from the Royal Philharmonic Academy of Bologna for his awe-inspiring interpretation of Bach's Goldberg Variations. Two years later, at the remarkable ago of only seventeen, Romanovsky claimed the top prize of the renowned International "Ferruccio Busoni" Piano Competition, furthering his reputation as one of the leading young pianist of the present day. Despite his young age, Romanovsky has been invited to numerous prominent international festivals such as La Roque d'Anthéron in France, Klavier Festival Ruhr in Germany, Chopin Piano Festival in Poland, and is a frequent guest of the International Piano Festival "Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli" in Brescia and Bergamo, Italy. Notably, in 2007 Alexander has performed on an invitation at the Papal Residence in the presence of Pope Benedict XVI in a concert celebrating the 110th Anniversary of Pope Paul VI's birth. His unique artistry and unparalleled command of his instrument has taken him to some of the leading venues in Europe and virtually every renowned hall in Italy: Turin, Bologna, Naples, Savona, Modena, Varese, Vicenza, Festival Michelangeli, Teatro del Verme, Teatro della Pergola in Florence, Verdi Auditorium and Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome. In 2000, Romanovsky gave his first performances in Japan, giving a series of recitals in Yokohama, Osaka, Okinawa and other cities. Highlights of the 2008/09 season include a debut in the United States, as well as performances in Hamburg, London and Milan.  Alexander Romanovsky recently signed an exclusive contract with the Decca label, and released a CD featuring Schumann's, "Symphonic Etudes, Op.13", and Brahms', "Variations on a Paganini's theme" to great praise from both audiences and critics who hailed the recording as being a "a signature of talent" (Filippo Michelangeli, Suonare News). Alexander Romanovsky holds an Artist Diploma from the prestigious Royal College of Music.
