Alison Wahl, Soprano
Biography
A native of Rochester NY, Alison Wahl has been praised for her "bright, vibrant soprano" (Chicago Tribune). She appeared as Clori in Clori, Tirsi, e Fileno (Haymarket Opera), Pamina in The Magic Flute, La Musique in Les Arts Florissants and The First Gossip in Ghosts of Versailles (Northwestern University). She has been a soloist with the North Shore Choral Society, the NU Baroque Music Ensemble Orchestra and NU Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Chicago Arts Orchestra, the Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago, VOX3, and Ensemble Vulpine Lupin. Alison also performs with the Chicago Symphony Chorus and Music of the Baroque. In 2011, she was a soloist at the Kennedy Center Conservatory Project in Washington, D.C. Alison has also been seen in Illionis Mainstage productions (Gretel in Hansel and Gretel), in the Illinois Opera Studio program (Lola in Gallantry), and with Prairie Fire Theatre (Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance; Gianetta in The Gondoliers).
Alison was a recipient of an Encouragement Award in the 2012 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and was the winner of the 2011 NYSMTA Empire State Collegiate Competition and the 2011 Chicago Council Student Auditions of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and won Fifth Place and the Farwell-Trust Award in the Musicians Club of Women's 2012 competition. She has been a Fellow of Ravinia's Steans Music Institute and a Studio Artist with Opera North. She graduated summa cum laude from Amherst College and won the Eric Edward Sundquist Prize and the Consulate General Prize for excellence in composition and performance. A recipient of the Edward Poole Lay Fellowship, Alison holds a Masters of Music with Honors from Northwestern University, where she was awarded the Eckstein Scholarship and is pursuing a Doctorate of Music in vocal performance. She studies with Pamela Hinchman and Richard Boldrey.
