Biography
24-year-old Anna Bulkina was the Grand National Winner of the 2009 MTNA Young Artist Piano Competition in Atlanta, GA, and was awarded a Steinway grand piano. In the same year, she also won first prize in the 59th Wideman International Piano Competition in Louisiana, and the 50th Annual Sorantin International Competition in Texas. Last year, she garnered more prizes in the 26th International Piano Competition “Valsesia Musica” in Italy and the 5th China International Piano Competition.
Ms. Bulkina has performed extensively in Russia, including appearances with the Rostov State Orchestra performing Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini; the Mozart Concerto in C minor, K.491 and Concerto in G major, K453; and Chopin’s Concerto No.1 and the Tchaikovsky Concerto No.1 with the Sochi Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2006, Anna Bulkina has been an annual participant in the “Superior Performing Course” in St. Petersburg, Russia, along with other performances in various concert halls in the same city. In 2007, she appeared with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic performing Chopin Concerto No.1, and in 2009 she performed Prokofiev’s Second Concerto with the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony.
She also toured several cities in China giving recitals, including an appearance at the National Center of the Performing Arts in Beijing. In 2010 in Texas, she performed the Schumann Concerto with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra as well as Prokofiev’s Second Concerto with San Angelo Symphony Orchestra.
Her engagements for the 2010-2011 seasons include concerto appearances with the Northwest Florida Symphony and the South Arkansas Symphony, and a recital performance for the Phillips Collection Sunday Concert Series in Washington, D.C.
Anna Bulkina graduated from the Sergei Rachmaninoff Conservatory under Professor Rimma Skorokhodova. Her first success was winning the Chopin International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Szafarnia, Poland, at the age of 12. In 2008, she came to the United States to continue her studies at the Texas Christian University on a Lili Kraus Scholarship, and is currently completing an Artist Diploma under the guidance of Dr. Tamás Ungár.
