Ari Evan, Cello
Biography
Ari Evan is a first-year Masters cellist at the Juilliard School, where he studies with Timothy Eddy. He received his Bachelors in Music at Northwestern University where he graduated with honors, under the tutelage of Hans Jørgen Jensen. In April of 2016, Ari performed the Barber Cello Concerto with the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, as a result of winning the 2015 Northwestern Concerto Competition. In 2015, he also won first prize in the Thaviu String Competition, held annually at Northwestern. Ari has served as principal cellist of the Juilliard Orchestra, and as principal cellist of Juilliard’s conductor-less Chamber Orchestra. He has also sat principal for the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. Ari has played in solo masterclasses for esteemed artists including Steven Isserlis, Frans Helmerson, Gary Hoffman, Ralph Kirshbaum, Laurence Lesser, and Joel Krosnick. A passionate chamber musician, Ari has had coachings/masterclasses from members of the Guarnari, Emerson, Juilliard, and Shanghai quartets, and has performed with artists such as Ara Gregorian, Nicholas Cords, and Grigory Kalinovsky. Prior festival appearances include the Sarasota Music Festival, the New York String Orchestra Seminar, ECU’s Four Seasons Festival, Juilliard’s Chamberfest, Kneisel Hall, Apeldoorn Masterclasses with Gary Hoffman, and the Heifetz Institute.
