Biography
Born in Izhevsk, Udmurtia, near Tchaikovsky’s birthplace, into a family of professional musicians, Asiya Korepanova started playing piano at the age of four. She made her solo debut recital at the age of eight, and studied at the Moscow Central Music School, majoring both in piano performance and composition, followed by further studies at the Moscow Chopin College and the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. In 2009 she was chosen as the best graduate from the piano department of St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakoff Conservatory. Currently she is in a DMA program in the Frost School of Music, University of Miami, studying with Professor Santiago Rodriguez.
Ms. Korepanova has performed in solo recitals and with various symphony orchestras in major concert halls in the Russian Federation, Germany, Austria, Greece, Spain, France, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Kuwait, Syria, India, United States, Great Britain and Australia. Also she has been a prizewinner of numerous international piano competitions, the most recent of which was the Wideman International Piano Competition in Shreveport, Louisiana. Other prizes won have been at the Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Paris and the Classical Heritage and Young Artists Scriabin Competitions in Moscow. Since 1999 she has been supported by the International Charity Foundation of Vladimir Spivakov.
Her extensive repertoire includes more than 50 concertos including those of Prokofiev, Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Brahms, Liszt, Chopin and Ravel. Her solo programs mostly focus on fundamental cycles – The Well-Tempered Clavier of Bach (both volumes) and his Goldberg Variations, Liszt’s Twelve Transcendental Etudes, Chopin’s complete Ballades, Scherzos, Impromptus, and significant works of Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff.
Since childhood, Ms. Korepanova has been very interested in graphic arts and writing poetry. In 1994 and 1998 she published two collections of her combined poems and graphics. Since 2007 she has implemented a unique project presenting piano cycles by great composers together with her commentary on each of the works in pictures and poems. Her first project “Euphoria on the Liszt” included a CD of the twelve Transcendental Etudes of Liszt with a personal recording of her poetry. Other projects include performance of The First Volume of Bach’s Well Tempered Clavier with 24 personal drawings for each piece, and original poetry and watercolors for Tchaikovsky's 18 pieces op. 72, dedicated to the 170th anniversary of composer's birth.
