Berent Korfker, Violin
Biography
The Dutch violinist Berent Korfker gave his first concert with orchestra at the age of 13. Since winning prizes at the Wieniawski competition and the Oscar Back violin competition he has played extensively throughout Europe, in Russia, Japan, the United States and Australia. He performed at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Beethoven Hall in Bonn, the Palacio de Festivales in Santander and the Minato Mirai Hall in Yokohama, either with orchestra or in chamber music recitals. He was a soloist with several orchestras including the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Lithuania, the Noord-Holland Philharmonic Orchestra and the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra. Both CDs Korfker recorded were well received by the international press. According to Classic CD the sonata by Fauré on his first CD can be counted among the best recordings of this work.
In 2005 Korfker was appointed Professor at the London Royal College of Music and the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey. Born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 1970, Korfker studied with the Dutch violin teacher Davina van Wely and the Russian violin teacher Zakhar Bron. From 1999 till 2005 he was the teaching assistant of Prof. Bronat at the Cologne Hochschule für Musik. During his studies, Korfker took part in master classes of Igor Oistrakh, Herman Krebbers, Berl Senofsky, Ruggiero Ricci and Jaap Schröder. He has given master classes at various festivals and universities in Austria, Italy, Australia and the United States.
During the present season Berent Korfker and Sander Sittig will appear twice in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in a series of Mozart/Schumann/Shostakovich chamber music. In past years they have performed together in Washington, New York, Istanbul, in Germany and throughout the Netherlands.
