Camille Thomas, Cello
Biography
"An impeccable technique, a complete and deep sound, an expression with a communicative romanticism, a true personality", those are the words of the press to describe the performances of the young French-Belgian cellist Camille Thomas.
Laureate of the Banque Populaire Natixis Foundation in 2012, named “Classical Revelation 2010” by ADAMI and laureate of the Fondation de la Vocation Bleustein-Blanchet, Camille Thomas was born in Paris in 1988.
Camille has been awarded top prizes in several international cello competitions such as the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe strings competition (Germany, 2010), the International Janigro Competition (Croatia, 2007), the Edmont Baert Competition (Belgium, 2007), and the Léopold Bellan Competition (Paris, 1997, 1998). She has received the Berthier Prize 2010 of the AMOPA in Paris and she is also laureate of DAAD, Carl-Flesch Academy, Villa Musica, LiveMusicNow and Sinfonima foundations.
Camille has performed at major venues across Europe including the Konzerthaus in Berlin, Salle Gaveau and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Bozar and Conservatoire Royal in Brussel and the Victoria Hall in Geneva. She has also taken part in renowned festivals such as the Strasbourg Festival, Pablo Casals Festival in Prades, the Encuentro de Santander, the Amsterdam Cello Biennale… She has performed as a soloist with orchestras including the Philharmonie Baden- Baden, the Sinfonia Varsovia, the United Nations Orchestra, the Capella Academica Orchestra of Berlin under the direction of Pavel Baleff, Theodor Guschlbauer, Antoine Marguier…
Camille played the role of a cellist in Karine Silla-Perez’s movie "Un Baiser Papillon" and performed Vivaldi cello concertos accompanied by the Orchestre des Solistes Français. Her performances have been broadcast on such European radio and television channels as France 2, France 3, RTBF, Deutsche Welle, Canal9 and France Musique. As well as her solo career, Camille is a passionate chamber musician. By invitation of Seiji Osawa, she participated in his quartet academy in Swizterland in the summer 2011 and 2012. She is a member of the Trio Saint-Exupéry, together with Lorenzo Gatto (violin) and Beatrice Berrut (piano).
Camille is currently studying with Frans Helmerson at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eilser in Berlin. She first studied with Marcel Bardon and Philippe Muller in Paris before joining Stephan Forck's class at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. She has also benefited from masterclasses with renowned musicians such as David Geringas, Anner Bylsma, Tabea Zimmerman, Natalia Shakovskaya, Ralph Kirschbaum, Boris Baraz and Steven Isserlis and Gabor Takacs-Nagy at the Verbier Festival Academy, Kronberg Academy...
Her first recording for the label Fuga Libera (Outhere) featuring works by Rachmaninoff, Kabalewski and Auerbach will be released in Mai 2013.
