Biography
Cellist Carl-Oscar Østerlind has been lauded for his “lyrical and vigorous tone” (Jury of Ljunggrenska Soloist Competition, Sweden) and “incredible presence” (Henrik Friis, Politiken, Denmark). He has been the winner of numerous competitions and prizes including 1st prize in the Danish String Soloist Competition, Oresund-Soloist-talent-prize, Jacob Gade Grand Award, Sonning Youth Award and 2nd prize in the Ljunggrenska Competition.
In 2009 Østerlind made his debut in Stockholm with a solo recital in the Stockholm Concert House. He has appeared as a soloist with Aarhus Symphony, Linkoping Symphony and the Danish National Symphony.
As a chamber musician he has played in festivals in Verbier, Bergen, Vancouver and Edinburgh. He has recorded the complete quartets by Carl Nielsen together with the “Young Danish String Quartet”.
Østerlind studied with professor Torleif Thedeen at Edsberg/Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen with Morten Zeuthen as mentor. Currently, he studying at the University of Southern California in the Graduate Certificate program under Ralph Kirshbaum. In master classes, he has performed for leading cellists and pedagogues such as Frans Helmerson, Hans Jensen and Mischa Maisky.
Østerlind plays on a cello made by Giovanni Grancino, Milan, 1703, kindly lend to him by the Augustinus Foundation.
