Cathy Basrak, Viola
Biography
Violist CATHY BASRAK began her musical studies at the age of
three.Although now just twenty-one, she has already
appeared as soloist with major orchestras in the United States and Europe,
including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and
the Bayerischen Rundfunks in Munich.
The recipient of numerous distinguished awards, Ms Basrak was the Grand Prize winner of the General Motors/Seventeen Magazine
National Concerto Competition at Interlochen (1994) and the American String
Teachers Association Competition (1996). She also was awarded First Prize in
the Irving M Klein International String Competition of 1995 (the first violist
to be so recognized), the William Primrose Memorial Scholarship Competition at
the international Viola Congress, and the Julius Stulberg Auditions. In 1997,
Ms Basrak won Second Prize in the prestigious International MusicCompetition of the ARD in Munich.
Cathy Basrak currently attends the Curtis
Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studies with Michael Tree and
also works with Joseph de Pasquale. Former teachers include Richard Young,
Jeffrey Irvine, and Roland and Almita Vamos.
