Dami Kim, Violin
Biography
Dami Kim, was born in 1988 in South Korea and began studying the violin at age five. She entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2002 and studied with a violinist Aaron Rosand. Kim held the Mark and Esther Kramer Fellowship as her merit-based full scholarship at Curtis. She graduated The Curtis Institute of Music in May 2007, and gained the Diploma. In May 2010, she gained the Bachelor's Degree from New England Conservatory, where she won the Concerto Competition and performed with NEC Symphony Orchestra in 2009. She is currently studying with a renowned violinist Miriam Fried, and pursuing the Master's Degree at New England Conservatory as a full scholarship student since September 2010.
The recipient of a number of awards and honors, Ms. Kim is the top prize winner of 2010 53rd Premio Paganini Competition in Genoa, Italy, where she was also given the special prize for the best interpretation of Paganini Capricci. She has won the First prize in 2011 3rd Munetsugu Angel Violin International Competition in Nagoya, Japan, where she has acquired a chance to use the Stradivarious "Rainville" violin for 2 years. She also received several prizes in various competitions throughout the nationwide including, 2010 Sendai International Competition in Japan, 2009 Michael Hill Violin International Competition in New Zealand, and the Second prize in 2006 Johansen International Competition, Washington DC.
She has also won the 2004 Philadelphia Orchestra Greenfield Concerto Competition, and appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra at Kimmel Center in 2005. She won the first prize in the CBS National Music Competition, Catholic Music Competition, the E-Wha Kyunghuang Competition, Korea inquire Competition, and the grand prize in the Korean Music Association Competition.
Kim has appeared as a soloist with the Thailand Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the invitation of the Thailand government. She has performed with numerous major orchestras in Korea, including Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, KBS Orchestra, Dae-jeon Philharmonic Orchestra, and Kyung-Ki Philharmonic Orchestra, and FMMC orchestra in Washington D.C.
