Biography

American cellist Dane Johansen performs extensively throughout the world as a soloist, chamber musician and as a member of the Escher String Quartet.  Praised for his "brave virtuosity" and "staggering aplomb" by The New York Times and New York Magazine, Johansen debuted at Lincoln Center under Maestro James Levine performing Elliott Carter's Cello Concerto in celebration of the composer's centennial. Recent appearances include a performance of Tan Dun's Crouching Tiger Concerto at the Lincoln Center Outdoor Festival and The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's Gala Concert in Alice Tully Hall. This past season included tours of China, Australia and the United Kingdom, performances at Wigmore Hall, the Louvre, Shriver Hall, Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall. As cellist of the Escher String Quartet, Johansen is in residence with BBC Radio 3 in London as a New Generation Artist, and in New York as an Artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Johansen is on faculty at The Juilliard School as faculty assistant to Joel Krosnick.
