Biography
Cellist Dmitri Atapine has been described as "a splendid, elegant cellist" demonstrating a "warm vividly coloristic touch." As a soloist and recitalist, Dr. Atapine has appeared on some of the world’s foremost stages including Carnegie Hall and the National Auditorium of Spain. He has performed as a soloist with such orchestras as the Asturias Symphony and Yale Philharmonia. His festival appearances include Music@Menlo, (CA), Banff (Canada), Miguel Bernal Jiménez (Mexico), Aldeburgh (UK), and the Pacific Music Festival (Japan), with radio and TV broadcasts in Spain, the US, Canada, Mexico, and South Korea.
Dr. Atapine's debut recording in collaboration with pianist Hyeyeon Park has been recently released on Urtext label with global distribution by NAXOS.
After completing his studies at Michigan State University with Suren Bagratuni, Dr. Atapine continued his studies with Aldo Parisot at the Yale School of Music, where he obtained an Artist Diploma and received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree. Currently Dr. Atapine is professor of cello at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he also is a member of the acclaimed Argenta Trio. Since 2007, he has served as the artistic director of the Ribadesella Chamber Music Festival in northern Spain.
