Dmitry Volkov, Cello
Biography
24-year-old cellist Dmitry Volkov won the 2009 Carlos Prieto International Cello competition, as well as first prizes in the Yale Gordon Concerto Competition (2012), the Midland-Odessa Symphony National Young Artist Competition (2011), and the Heifetz Institute of Music Concerto Competition (2009). He has won numerous scholarships and awards, including most recently the Holland Music Sessions’ New Masters on Tour participant (2011-2012). Mr.Volkov is a member of "The Russian Trio" which recently won second prize and the "Audience Choice" award at the Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition.
In May 2012, Mr. Volkov made his debut in several prestigious concert halls in Europe including the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) and the Theatre Odeon (Zwolle). He also recorded his first solo CD on the Urtext label in August 2012 in Mexico City.
Born in Togliatti, Russia, Mr. Volkov has performed as a soloist with the National Symphony of Mexico, and the Youth Orchestras of the Americas, in addition to solo concerts at the Abramson Recital Hall (Washington DC), the International Holland Music Sessions (Bergen, Norway), the W.M.P Concert Hall Series “Strad for Lunch” (New York), and the Miguel Bernal Jiménez International Music Festival (Mexico).
Having graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in the studio of Natalia Shakhovskaya in 2011, he is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Peabody Institute in the studio of Amit Peled.
