Eileen Strempel, Soprano

Eileen Strempel, Soprano

Biography

"She is very striking,
overpowering, exacting, and musical... a magnificent coloratura, a
lyrical soprano, "raves the Associated Press about young soprano Eileen L. Strempel, for her Bolshoi Opera debut as Violetta in La Traviata. Ms.
Strempel has won numerous competitions: first prize of the Loren
Zachary Vocal Competition, both prestigious Sullivan Awards, the Licia
Albanese-Puccini Foundation, the Liederkranz as well as the Enrico
Caruso Vocal Competition. This last victory led to an acclaimed recital
at Casa Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, Italy as well as a concert in the
historical opera house of Imola, Italy. Ms. Strempel is an alumna of
the Jerome Hine's Opera Music Theater International as well as the
Eastman School of Music and holds a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana
University.

An exciting debut with the New York Philharmonic was made on February 15th,
1998. This American Music Concert was part of the New York Philharmonic
Chamber Music Series, and featured Ms. Strempel in works by Ned Rorem;
the composer was in attendance for his lavish 75th birthday
celebration. This has fueled an exciting project of an album of
previously unrecorded works for unaccompanied voice and violin with New
York Philharmonic artist Oscar Ravina, as well as inspiring an Avery
Fisher Hall debut as the soprano for the Bach b Minor Mass with the
National Chorale on November 20th, 1998. Strempel can next
be heard in recital with the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago,
immediately after her CD release of the songs of Josephine Lang.

The soprano has also performed
with Indianapolis Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Syracuse Opera,
the Berkeley Early Music Festival, the Skaneateles Music Festival,
Masterworks Chorale, Westchester Hudson Opera, the San Francisco's
First Church Concert Series, the Adirondack Music Festival, Syracuse's
Society for New Music, the Bolshoi Orchestra Sextet, The West Point
Concert Series and with the Liederkranz Symphony Orchestra at Alice
Tully Hall. She has most recently been seen as: Adele, Marcellina,
Lucia, Gilda, Zerlina, Despina, and in concert with Barber's Knoxville, Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate, Respighi's Lauda per la Nativita del Signore, Poulenc's Mass in G, and the Berlioz Les nuits d'Ete.
