Elena Baksht, Piano
Biography
Pianist Elena Baksht first came to public attention at the age of eleven when she appeared as a soloist with the Moscow Philharmonic. After numerous concerts throughout the former Soviet Union, her career has taken her around the world.
Born in Moscow, Ms. Baksht was accepted at the Music School for Gifted Children and continued her studies at the Moscow Conservatory. Her teachers have included Bakulov, Kestner, Dijur, Mogilevsky, and Mervis. In 1992, she made her European debut at Rotterdam Concert Hall in the Netherlands. The following year, she was awarded a full scholarship to study at the Manhattan School of Music with Nina Svetlanova. Ms. Baksht is the 1997 recipient of the Helene and Jerome Dreskin Foundation Career Grant. As winner of the Artist International Auditions Competition, Ms. Baksht was presented in her New York debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in 1998. She is presently studying with Alexander Slobodyanik and on scholarship at the Julliard School with Jerome Lowenthal.
