Biography
Evan Mack received his DMA from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music and became a champion of American music. He has performed all over the United States, Barcelona, Spain, and South Africa, sharing with large audiences the exciting and accessible music of our day. His next tour, called "Hemispheres" will feature many American works, as well as music from six continents!
In 2001 Evan won the Vanderbilt University Concerto Competition, and later performed Samuel Barber's Piano Concerto with the Vanderbilt Symphonic Orchestra. He was also a guest artist of the Blair Woodwind Ensemble for its premiere of a composition by Dana Wilson. Evan has studied with Michael Chertock of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and participated in master classes by George Crumb, Seymour Lipkin, Emanuel Ax, Louis de Moura Castro,Juraj Margulis, Diane Andersen, and James Tocco.
Mr. Mack has performed with much acclaim in Las Vegas, Cincinnati, Charleston, Nashville, Bonita Springs, and throughout the Northeast and Midwest. Most recently, he has performed with the Kentucky Symphony, the Cincinnati Symphony Chamber Players, The West Virginia Symphony, the Dayton Philharmonic, and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, including a performance in Carnegie Hall.
As a composer, Evan Mack is the Selection Winner of the National Association of Composers, San Francisco for Fall 2009 and the Selection Winner of the 2010 SCI Region IV Conference. In 2010, his opera, "Angel of the Amazon" will be performed in Brooklyn and San Francisco and is slated for full development and production by Encompass New Opera Theatre. Mr. Mack has produced five full musicals (three of them for children's theater), as well as numerous popular songs and classical works. Most recently, his "Dream of Freedom", for choir, 2 soloists, and piano was performed at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Throughout 2009-2010, his work for Two Pianos, "American Groove" will be performed by the Westhuizen Duo across the United States and South Africa.
This year, Mr. Mack will be an Artist-in-Residence at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. He is slated for performances at Heidelberg College and UNC-Greensboro. The premiere of "American Groove" took place in North Carolina in February. "Angel of the Amazon" kicked off in NYC that same month, followed by performances in San Francisco in April. The Marshall University Chorus, of sixty-plus students performed "Dream of Freedom" with Mr. Mack guest conducting their spring concert. "Three Reflections of Sister Dorothy, for Mezzo and Orchestra" will be performed by the Blue Ash/Montgomery Symphony in September.
