Biography
Pianist Evgenia Rubinova was the sensation of the 2003 Leeds International Pianoforte Competition where she won the Silver Medal. Critics raved about her performances; Andrew Clements of The Guardian said: “Rubinova had the audience on the edge of the seat...she has real presence and energy in her playing!...” and Stephen Pollard of The Independent wrote: “Rubinova has spark engendered by personality and musical imagination...a performance which took off and left everything else behind!..."
In the 2004-2005 season, Ms. Rubinova will perform the season’s opening concert with the Opera North Orchestra in England, followed by her solo appearance with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic at London’s Royal Albert Hall. She is also scheduled for solo appearances with the Halle Opera Orchestra in Germany, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Halle Orchestra of England, and with the Wiener Kammer Orchester under Philippe Entremont in Vienna. In recital, Ms. Rubinova will be heard in the USA, France, Austria, England and in Germany, where she will be featured at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt and at the Chopin Society in Hanover. In the United States, her solo recitals will take her to Miami, Washington, D.C. and New York City which will include a live broadcast on WQXR New York.
Highlights of her 2003-2004 season included Ms. Rubinova’s performance at Symphony Hall, Birmingham with a nationwide live broadcast by the BBC; her solo appearance in Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto and Mozart’s Piano Concerto K.271 under Mettke and Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto under Wachowski in Germany; her orchestral debut with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris at the Lille Piano Festival in France: and her return engagement with the Halle Orchestra under Mark Elder in Bradford, England. Ms. Rubinova gave solo recitals at Bargemusic, New York City; Salle Cortot, Paris, and at the “Bocconi University” concert series in Milan, Italy. Her concerts have been broadcast by RAI Italy, BBC 3 and BBC 4 in London, NDR (Hanover) and the HR (Frankfurt).
In addition to her success in Leeds, Ms. Rubinova has won many music awards and prizes at international piano competitions in Western Europe. She was born in Tashkent into a family of professional musicians and began her piano studies at an early age and already by age twelve, had won the International Piano Competition in Russia. She received a “Diploma and Special Prize” at the International Chopin Competition for Young Talents in Moscow and graduated with honors from both the Gnessin School and Gnessin Music Academy. Ms. Rubinova moved to Frankfurt in 1999 and was accepted into the master class of Prof. Natochenny at the Music Conservatory of Frankfurt where she continues her studies.
