Biography
Described by The Flutist Quarterly as having “a beautiful phrasing, brilliant virtuosity and a legato worthy of a great singer”, Ginevra Petrucci has an active performing schedule that has seen her appear, in recent years, insome of the most prestigious concert halls throughout Europe (Santa Cecilia, Rome; Teatro La Fenice, Venice; Salle Cortot, Paris) America (Carnegie Hall, New York; Kennedy Center, Washington D.C.), Japan (Ohji Hall, Tokyo), South America and Middle East, with collaborators Bruno Canino, Boris Berman, Jory Vinikour, Emmanuel Ceysson, I Pomeriggi Musicali, I Musici di Roma, the Kodály Quartet.
She has released nearly twenty highly praised albums for international labels, spanning the repertoire. She has served as visiting professor at several institutions, including Royal Academy in Dublin, Chopin Academy in Warsaw, Paderewski Academy in Poznan and Liszt Academy in Budapest.
An advocate of contemporary music, she has worked with Kaija Saariaho, Steve Reich, George Crumb, Betsy Jolas, Jean-Michel Damase, and many of the rising composers of her generation. She has founded the Flauto d’Amore Project, a joint performer/composer endeavor aimed to the creation of a new music repertoire for the flauto d’amore.
Born in Rome, she studied at Conservatorio ‘Santa Cecilia’ of Rome with her father, to continue her education at Ecole Normale ‘Alfred Cortot’ in Paris, Yale University and Stony Brook University, where she is a Doctoral candidate.
She is Principal Flute at Chamber Orchestra of New York and Concert Manager at UC Berkeley.
In repertoire ranging from Bach and before, to Poulenc and beyond, Jory Vinikour has performed as soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonic of Radio France, and as recital soloist in series and festivals throughout much of the world.
