Biography

Hulda Jonsdottir began her violin studies at age 4 in Reykjavik, Iceland. In 2003, she entered the Reykjavik College for Music as a student of Lilja Hjaltadottir and later Gudny Gudmundsdottir, concertmaster of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. At the age of 14, she was accepted to the Iceland Academy of the Arts, the youngest student admitted in the history of the academy. There she continued her studies with Gudny Gudmundsdottir and graduated from the school´s diploma program in Spring 2009. Hulda currently studies at The Juilliard School in New York City where she is a student of Robert and Nicholas Mann.

Hulda has appeared as a soloist with various orchestras in Iceland including the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Margess International Festival Orchestra in Switzerland, and the Morelos Chamber Orchestra in Mexico. She has also given a number of solo and chamber music performances in Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Mexico, and the United States. Hulda has served as a principal player in the Icelandic Youthphony and the Texas Music Festival in Houston. She also enjoys playing modern music and performs with the newly founded Skark String Ensemble in Iceland and has performed with the Axiom Ensemble at Juilliard.

Hulda plays on a violin by Vincenzo Sannino and a bow by Victor Fetique on generous loan from the Rachel Elizabeth Barton Foundation in Chicago and has also been a recipient of the foundation’s career grant.
