James Kim, Cello
Biography
Born in Seoul, Korea in 1993, James Kim has appeared as soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Symphony Hall, Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of the New England Conservatory in Jordan Hall, Camerata Virtuosi of New Jersey in Carnegie Zankel Hall, and the Korean Broadcasting System Orchestra in his native Korea. His has given solo recitals at Carnegie Weill Hall and Kumho Art Hall to critical acclaim. He has made solo appearances at New York City’s Steinway Hall, in the Rising Star Series at the Great Mountains Festival, and for radio stations WQXR and NPR. He joined the Sejong Soloists in their 2013 concert tour of Korea. He is the First Prize winner of the 2006 International David Popper Cello Competition and the recipient of the 2012 Sony-USA Foundation Career Grant and 2009 Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship. His tutors include Susan Moses, Janos Starker, Laurence Lesser, Aldo Parisot, and Joel Krosnick.
