Biography
Canadian
pianist Janice Fehlauer began her
musical training in British Columbia, where she received the Associate Diploma
from the national Royal Conservatory of Music in both piano and violin. She also holds degrees in music from the
University of British Columbia and the University of North Texas.
Janice was
the 2007 winner of the Nena Wideman International Piano Competition in
Shreveport, Louisiana, and the 2006 winner of the University of North Texas
Concerto Competition. In 2006 she was
voted Most Outstanding Graduate Piano Student by the faculty of UNT. Recent and upcoming appearances as piano
soloist include performances with the Shreveport Symphony, the Meridian
Symphony, the Mississippi Symphony, the North Florida Symphony, the Lewisville
Lake Symphony, the UNT Symphony and the Chilliwack Metropolitan Orchestra
(Canada). In 2008 Janice also performed
solo recitals for the Phillips Collection in Washington D.C., as well as at
Millsaps College in Mississippi, and in Louisiana, Texas and British Columbia.
In addition
to her solo performances, Janice is a dedicated collaborative artist and has
performed extensively with members of Vancouver Opera, the Vancouver Song
Circle and Brio String Quartet. She has
performed in chamber series in Arkansas and Texas, and has played for the
Metropolitan Opera Competition. She was
a guest artist at the University of Texas Pan American Summer Festival in 2009,
where she presented eight chamber recitals in five days. Janice is currently a
pianist for the Dallas Opera and a music director at Dallas Children's Theater,
and previously played for UNT Opera and Fort Worth Opera.
Janice's
performances have been broadcast and recorded live on NPR, Rogers10 and
NowTV. In 2004-2005 she performed
regularly for the UBC Learning Exchange, a group of artists who sought
innovative and non-traditional ways of presenting classical music to
underserved audiences in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
