Born in Seoul, Korea, Ji-Hyun Son earned a Bachelor’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music and a Master’s from The Juilliard School. As a soloist, her performances include appearances with the Baden-Badener Philharmonie, the Manhattan School of Music Philharmonic broadcast on WQXR, the Brooklyn Conservatory Orchestra, and the Juilliard Orchestra at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center. Ms. Son is a member of the Grant Park Orchestra in Chicago during the summer and she freelances as a substitute violist with the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, New York City ballet, and Philadelphia Orchestras. Her numerous awards include first prize in the 2005 Concerto Competition at the Juilliard School, “Audience Prize” in the Washington International Competition in 2006, and the “Kenneth Leighton Trust” Award in the Tertis International Viola Competition.
