Biography
Jialiang Wu has performed both solo and chamber recitals in major venues in China, North America, and Europe. After giving his debut in Shanghai when he was 14, he was featured on Chinese television and radio. He has also won a number of prizes and scholarships including 2nd prize in the Shanghai Piano Competition, 1st prize in the Thaviu-Isaak PianoCompetition, top prizes in both the Mannes and Northwestern University Concerto Competitions, semi-finalist in the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition for Young Musicians, the New Orleans Piano Competition,and the Esther Yochim Endowed Fellowship at Northwestern University.
Mr. Wu’s recent highlights in the United States include his debut in Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center with conductor JoAnn Falleta, and a showcase radio appearance on New York’s WQXR. He has performed in music festivals including the Shanghai International Piano Festival, the Mannes music festival series, and the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival. He has studied with world-renowned virtuosi including Yefim Bronfman, Richard Goode, Fu Ts’ong, Garrick Ohlsson, Lazar Berman, and Nicholai Lugansky, from whom he won high praise.
Born in China, Mr. Wu attended the Shanghai Conservatory of Music as a student of Dachun You. He received both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Mannes School of Music in New York, where he studied with Pavlina Dokovska, and is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree program with Alan Chow at Northwestern University.
