Josué Valdepeñas, Cello
Biography
Josué Valdepeñas is a Canadian cellist currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Colburn School with Clive Greensmith. He has appeared as soloist with The Koffler Chamber Orchestra, The Colburn Orchestra, the Indiana University Chamber symphony and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. His most recent accomplishment was winning the Cello Concerto Competition at Indiana University with Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations. He completed his Bachelor of Music at Indiana with Eric Kim. Mr. Valdepeñas has participated in music festivals such as the Banff Chamber Music Residency, the Aspen Music Festival and The New York String Orchestra Seminar in 2011 and 2012. As a chamber musician, Mr. Valdepeñas has collaborated with highly notable artists such as Sylvia Rosenberg, Martin Beaver, James Dunham, Atar Arad, Quatuor Ébène, and James Conlon. He performed the Korngold sextet with colleagues at the Colburn School under James Conlon’s baton which was hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “being played with an idiomatic mastery far beyond their years.” Mr. Valdepeñas was also a founding member of the Donatello String Quartet, which was invited to the 2012 Coleman Chamber Competition, the 2012 Sandor Vegh International Quartet Competition and won the 2012 Kuttner Quartet Competition at Indiana University. The Quartet gave their New York City debut at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall in May 2012.
