Julius B Schmidt, Piano
Biography
I began playing piano at age three (under a local teacher named G. Peovitch). Afterwards I learned under Florence Kirsch.
A few years later I discovered the book "The Great Pianists" by Harold C Schonberg (Simon & Schuster 1987), and was quite blown off my feet. After absorbing the (quite shocking) information contained within, I began collecting as many old recordings as I could find (e.g. Ignaz Friedman, Joseph Hoffman, Grodowsky, Cortot, Percy Grainger, Moriz Rosenthal and many many others) and spent many years studying the "lost arts" of piano playing. I did my best to mesh what I could learn with my own personal style, and the results have most definitely been hightly successful.
As I have been told by countless others, I have left the fold of "Mordern Pianism" and become something quite new. My playing has been called "refreshingly emotional" in a world where too often emotion is missing from pianism.
Recently, I have been often asked to improvise, and many of these perfomances have been recorded. (I have been improvising on the piano since my earliest memories). These recordings have become quite popular, and I therefore, in 2008, opened a website for the sale of them. They continue to be very popular.
They are available at my website: www.JBSmusic.net as regular Audio CDs, as well as mp3. Recordings of my Improvisations are also available at Amazon, Itunes, Spotify and more.
I have also been composing for many years. As well as at my site (for sale), several free downloads of my compositions are available at a site called free-scores.
