Kimberly McCoul Risinger, Flute
Biography
Flutist Kimberly
McCoul Risinger has received much acclaim as both a soloist and ensemble
musician. She will make her solo recital debut in Carnegie Hall in June of
2003. Risinger is currently Principal Flutist with the Illinois Symphony and
Chamber Orchestras and is a member of the Sonneries Woodwind Quintet.
The recipient of
many awards and grants, she was awarded first prize in the 1996 Flute Society
of Washington Young Artist Competition and was a prize winner in the
Myrna Brown International Competition in that same year.
A champion of new
music, she has advocated and performed the works of many well-known living
composers. She has played solo performances throughout the US and abroad, often
presenting world premieres of new works written for and dedicated to her. She
recently performed the US premiere of Zyman's Concerto for flute and orchestra
with the Illinois State Symphony Orchestra and performed a European tour with
the Sonneries Woodwind Quintet. Other recent highlights include performances and
premieres by invitation of the National Flute Association, the Society of
Composers, the College Music Sociely, Ars Vitalis; The New Jersey New Music
Forum, SEAMUS, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and have included performances
at such noteworthy venues as the Juilliard School, the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology and the Rotterdam Conservatory.
She has recorded for the Vienna Modern Masters and the BWE Classics label. She
can also be heard on a recent live recording of Mozart's Concerto in D with the
Illinois Symphony Orchestra and on a new music CD released by SEAMUS. She
recently recorded David Maslanka's Song Book for solo flute and wind
ensemble with the Illinois State University Wind Symphony, a recording slated
to be released by Albany Records by the fall of 2003. An other upcoming solo CD
will feature new sonatas written in the 1990's. She has been published in the
Flutist Quarterly and is working with other performers around the country on a
DVD educational video that includes performance instruction for all wind
instruments.
Dr. Risinger
received a DMA from the University of Maryland, a MM from Illinois State
University and a EM from the College of Wooster. She is currently Assistant
Professor of Flute at Illinois State University.
