Kobi Malkin, Violin
Biography
Kobi Malkin, born in Israel, began his violin studies at the age of 6 at the Karmiel Conservatory. He is currently a full scholarship student at the New England Conservatory where he studies with Miriam Fried. He recently won the prestigious Ilona Kornhauser prize in the 2011 Aviv competitions of the America-Israel Cultural foundation.
Since his debut in Israel at the age of 14, Mr. Malkin has performed as a soloist with the Haifa, the Ra'anana, and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestras, and the Ashdod Chamber Orchestra under the batons of Stanley Sperber, Rafi Kadishzon, Yevgeny Zirlin, and Menahem Nebenhaus. He has participated in master classes with Pinchas Zukerman, Itzhak Perlman, Ivry Gitlis, Ida Haendel, Leonidas Kavakos, Vadim Gluzman, and Pamela Frank. Between 2004 and 2007, he served in the Israeli Defense Forces under the status of an "Outstanding Musician".
Mr. Malkin is a regular scholarship recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation (as of 2008 he also receives a special scholarship for studying in the US) and of the Ilona Feher Foundation. He plays a 1759 J. B. Guadagnini violin generously on loan to him from Yehuda Zisapel.
