Leah Ferguson, Viola
Biography
Praised for her “warm, lyrical tone” (ClevelandClassical), 21-year-old (2014) violist Leah Ferguson was born in Chicago where she received her early training from Roland Vamos. Leah’s numerous honors at competitions include first prize at the MTNA National Competition, the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, and top prizes at NFAA YoungArts week. A dedicated chamber musician, Leah has been featured at festivals including Music@Menlo, the Sarasota Music Festival, the Perlman Music Program, and Norway’s Valdres Festival. She has collaborated with artists including Itzhak Perlman, Sergey Babayan and members of the Cleveland, Orion and Tokyo quartets. As an orchestral musician Leah has performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony and in 2012 served as principal viola of the New York String Orchestra Seminar. Leah currently studies with Robert Vernon at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she is pursuing her undergraduate degree as a recipient of a full merit scholarship. Leah plays a viola by Peter Greiner.
