Biography
Leighann Daihl, historical flutist, has concertized throughout central Europe and the United States, both as soloist and collaborator in chamber and orchestral music. Her playing has been described as “invigoratingly fresh and perky” (Bachtrack) as well as “some of the most spirited, stylish, and nuanced playing” (Chicago Classical Review). She regularly plays with period instrument ensembles throughout the Midwest, such as New Comma Baroque, Baroque Band, Newberry Consort, and the Bach and Beethoven Ensemble. Her performances can frequently be heard on WFMT, 98.7. In addition, she has been fortunate enough to work under such notable conductors as Jeffrey Thomas, Barthold Kuijken, Jeanne Lamon, Stanley Ritchie, Harry Bicket, and Peter Kooij. Ms. Daihl is an avid teacher of modern and period flutes. She holds degrees in modern flute from DePauw and Indiana Universities as well as degrees in historical flutes from Indiana University and the Royal Conservatory of the Hague. She was also the recipient of the prestigious Netherlands-American Fulbright grant.
