Biography
Matthew Pena is “a sweet-voiced tenor” (The New York Times) from Modesto, California who “brings a pliant tenor voice and winning eagerness”) to opera, concert and recital. Recent performances include Lenski in Eugene Onegin with Anchorage Opera, Azor in Zémire et Azor with the American Classical Orchestra, and the Congressional Page in the workshop of Two Boys, a new joint commission by the Metropolitan Opera and Lincoln Center Theater. Matthew has appeared with Santa Fe Opera, Virginia Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, Des Moines Metro Opera, and the Choral Society of New York. . His recital performances have been critically acclaimed for their nuance and commitment. He has performed with the NY Festival of Song, the Ravinia Festival, and the San Jose Music Study Club. Upcoming engagements include concerts with the Little Opera Company of New York, the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Choral Society of New York, as well as a new opera workshop, jointly commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center and English National Opera.
