Oliver Herbert, Cello
Biography
Oliver Herbert is an 18-year-old cellist from San Francisco. He began his cello studies at the age of seven and currently studies with Clive Greensmith at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. Since his orchestral debut in 2013, Oliver has made many such solo appearances around the United States, as well as in recital. His upcoming engagements include an appearance with the Las Vegas Philharmonic. In the summer of 2014, Oliver served as principal cellist of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, performing in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Seiji Ozawa Hall, and Walt Disney Hall. He has also served as principal cellist of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Colburn Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. Oliver has participated in numerous music festivals, including the YellowBarn Young Artists Program and IMS Prussia Cove. Among his honors are top prizes from the Felix Khuner Young Artist Competition, the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, the Philadelphia International Music Festival Concerto Competition, the Nova Vista Symphony Concerto Competition, the Colburn Academy Concerto Competition, and the Spotlight Competition. He is also a 2015 National YoungArts Foundation finalist and a 2015 US Presidential Scholar in the Arts nominee. Before starting his studies at Colburn, Oliver was a student at the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts. His past teachers include Iris Pingel and Peter Wyrick.
