Osip Nikiforov, Piano
Biography
Born in the city of Abakan in Siberia to a family of musicians, pianist Osip Nikiforov started studying piano with his father. While still in Russia, he participated and won numerous awards in national and international competitions.
In 2008 at the 1st International e-Piano Junior Competition in Minnesota, Mr. Nikiforov at the age of fourteen shared Third Prize. A few weeks later, he was the winner of the Dorothy McKenzie Award in New York City at the International Keyboard Institute and Festival Competition. He is also the First prize winner of the 2011 Music Teacher National Association Competition in the Senior Division and the Second prize winner in the Young Artist Division in 2014. Also in 2014, he was awarded First prize at the Schubert Club National Piano Competition.
Since 2010, Mr. Nikiforov has resided in the United States, where he graduated from Shattuck St. Mary’s School in Minnesota and is now attending the University of Minnesota studying piano with Alexander Braginsky. He regularly visits his homeland to perform solo, as well as with national orchestras, including recent performances of the Prokofiev Concerto #2.
In the United States, he performed the Beethoven Concerto #3 with the Minnesota Orchestra. He has also appeared on Minnesota Public Radio, the Star Tribune, and the University of Minnesota web pages. Playing clarinet is his favorite hobby.
