Philip Amalong, Piano
Biography
Pianist Philip Amalong is in demand both as soloist and chamber music collaborator. Mr. Amalong has performed with the Razbia Ensemble, a chamber group formed for the residency program of Chamber Music America, and has also played and recorded with the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops, the Fort Wayne Symphony, and the Dayton Philharmonic. His recordings can be heard on the Eroica, Titanic and Sowash labels, including an Albany Records disc with flutist Jeannine Dennis.
After winning a Van Cliburn Scholarship, Philip Amalong attended the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and studied with Frank Weinstock. He later earned a Master's degree studying with collaborative pianist Sandra Rivers. Other awards include first prize in the McElroy Competition and the Sarah B. Marvin Scholarship Award, and recently awards at the IBLA Grand Prize International Piano Competition in Sicily and a Fellowship to the Rome Festival. Mr. Amalong has taught at Xavier University and is on the faculty at the College of Mount St. Joseph.
