Richard Young, Viola
Biography
Richard Young is best known to Chicagoans as the violist of the Vermeer String Quartet, with whom he has performed all over the world, and recorded over three dozen chamber music works. He was the producer of the Vermeer's Grammy-nominated CD of Haydn's The Seven Last Words of Christ.
A noted educator, Mr. Young is currently a Professor at Northern Illinois University and a Fellow of the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. He is also heavily involved with organizations that benefit inner-city children, including the People's Music School and the International Music Foundation, where he plays in an outreach ensemble, and supervises the 18 chamber groups of the IMF's Live Music Now! program, which present 400 concerts annually in the Chicago Public Schools.
