Biography
Born in 1991, Sayaka Selina started playing the cello at age six, taught by Rebecca Firth in Zürich, and entered Thomas Demenga’s class at the HfM Basel in 2006. She now continues her studies with Frans Helmerson at the HfM Hanns Eisler in Berlin. A prize winner in several international competitions, she was also awarded the Migros Kulturprozent Studienpreis and was admitted to their concert agency. A frequent soloist with the Zurich and Basel Chamber Orchestras and the Zurich Camerata, she has appeared many times in the Tonhalle Zurich. In 2012 she played the American premiere of Thomas Demenga’s Double Cello Concerto at the Piatigorsky Festival in Los Angeles, alongside the composer. Latest projects include a recital at the Sommets Musicaux Festival in Gstaad and a piano trio tour to Japan and Korea. International festival appearances include the Kronberg and London Masterclasses, Santander Festival, and IMS Prussia Cove.
