Biography
Born in St. Petersburg, Sergej Bolkhovets has established himself as one of the leading Swedish violinists of his generation, both as soloist and orchestral musician. He graduated from the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and has attended masterclasses with renowned violinists and musicians, such as Pinchas Zukerman, Rachel Podger, Andras Schiff, Pierre Amoyal and Krysztof Wegrzyn.
As a soloist, Mr. Bolkhovets has on several occasions performed on Swedish Television and holds prizes from prestigious Swedish and international competitions. He has soloed with various orchestras in Sweden, Germany, Poland, Portugal and the US. He made his debut with the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performing the Sibelius violin concerto, and in 2010 with the Bielefeld Philharmonic he performed John Adams "The Dharma at Big Sur" concerto for 6-stringed e-violin in 9 performances.
Since the age of 15, he has played in some of the world’s most prestigious youth orchestras with conductors such as Levine, Mehta, Abbado, Welser-Möst, Temirkanov, Sawallisch, P. Järvi, Kamu, and Nagano. Since 2003, he has been working in the Radio Orchestra of Berlin (RSB) and since 2005 in the Berlin Philharmonic. He is currently a member of the Camerata Nordica in Sweden and is concertmaster of the Neues Kammerorchester Potsdam in Germany. Mr. Bolkhovets is expanding his career as a conductor, working with conductors Kenneth Kiesler, Leif Segerstam, as well as consulting with Paavo Järvi and Michael Sanderling.
