Seunghee Lee, Clarinet
Biography
Clarinetist, Seunghee Lee has been hailed by the Fanfare Magazine as a “brilliant clarinetist” and recognized as “an uncompromising soloist destined to be an upcoming contender of top stature” by Clarinet Magazine of the International Clarinet Association.
Seunghee is a recipient of numerous national and international competitions and awards, including First Prize at both the International Clarinet Society Competition and the Saint Louis Symphony Young Artist Competition. She is also winner of the Yale University Woolsey Hall Concerto Competition, the Music Academy of the West Concerto Competition, and the Yale Alumni Award.
Her recitals and chamber music concerts have been heard in New York, Hong Kong, Korea, Chicago, Philadelphia, Rochester, New Haven, Minneapolis, Santa Barbara, and Sarasota.
She has appeared as soloist with the St. Louis Symphony, Metropolitan Symphony of Minneapolis, the Yale Philharmonia, the Music Academy of the West Philharmonic, Jupiter Symphony of New York, and the Puchon Philharmonic Orchestra in Korea where she served as principal clarinetist. She has also been a guest principal and section player for the Hong Kong Philharmonic. After her debut CD “Brava” with Summit Records was released in 2000, Seunghee was featured in an impressive list of young classical musicians in the “Top 30 Classical Stars Under 30” by KDFC. Seunghee’s radio broadcast performances and interviews have been heard on KWMU in St. Louis, RTHK4 in Hong Kong, KBS FM 1 in Seoul Korea, and KDFC in San Francisco.
Born in Seoul, Korea, Seunghee Lee grew up in Hoffman Estates, Illinois and began her study of clarinet with her father. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Eastman School of Music under Charles Neidich and earned her Master’s degree and the Artist Diploma at Yale University, where she was a student of David Shifrin.
Seunghee has also studied with John Bruce Yeh of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
