Shira Majoni, Viola
Biography
Born in Florence, Italy in 1989 violist Shira Majoni started her musical studies at the age of five. In 2004, after having made “Aliya” with her family, she continued her studies under the guidance of Dr. Lilach Levanon. Shira is currently finishing her bachelor degree at the Buchmann – Mehta School of Music under Mr. Haim Taub; there she represented the school as a member of the Gertler Quartet with which she performed for the Israeli and Canadian radio.
Shira took part in numerous master courses in Israel and abroad, where she collaborated with world-renowned musicians such as Prof. Wilfried Strehle at the Mozarteum (Salzburg), Prof. Bruno Giuranna at the Accademia Chigiana (Siena) and the Accademia Stauffer (Cremona), Prof. Atar Arad and Mr. Roman Spitzer at the Buchman-Mehta School.
Shira served in the IDF as an "outstanding musician" playing in a string quartet; she participated in the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival in 2007 and since 2008 is a member of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Daniel Barenboim, with whom she toured throughout Europe, South America, Asia and the Middle East.
Shira graduated from the Thelma-Yellin High school of Arts and performed as a soloist with the high school's symphony orchestra; she was a member of the JMC young musicians group and receives scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation since 2007 and the Barenboim Said Foundation since 2008.

Shira Majoni was awarded Top and Special Prizes at the 2013 Aviv Competition in Tel Aviv. She has participated in the Upper Galilee and Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festivals, and collaborated with artists such as Guy Braunstein, Bruno Giuranna and Nobuko Imai to name a few. As a member of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim she performed at the Proms in London, the Salzburg and Lucerne Festivals, and recorded the entire Beethoven Symphonies Cycle for Decca. Shira holds a Bachelor degree from the Buchman-Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv, under the guidance of renowned IPO Concermeister Chaim Taub and receives scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, the Barenboim Said Foundation and the New England Conservatory, where she’s currently a student of Kim Kashkashian. Miss Majoni plays on an 1833 Pressenda, kindly given to her on loan from the private collection of Mr. Yehuda Zisapel
