Tatjana Roos, Violin
Biography
The fourth generation of a musical family, Tatjana was born in London in 1997 and fell in love with the violin at the age of three. She was soon admitted to London’s Royal Academy of Music (Junior Department) and, at age seven, she recorded Massenet’s “Meditation” for an installation art exhibition by Turner Prize-winner, Gillian Wearing.
In 2006, Tatjana’s family re-located to Singapore where she performed regularly as well as at summer festivals in Europe, including a broadcast on Dutch national television. Aged 10, Tatjana enjoyed her first solo opportunity with orchestra at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, Singapore where she played Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.
In 2008, she won entry to the Yehudi Menuhin School, studying with Professor Natasha Boyarsky and during this time she won a first prize at the Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition, Italy.
When, at age 15, Tatjana was accepted as a pupil to Professor Boris Kuschnir, she embarked upon an ambitious schedule; dividing her time between Vienna, for her musical studies at Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst, Graz and continuing academic studies at home in Surrey. During 2014, Tatjana added further violin studies with Professor Boris Kucharsky at Junior Guildhall, London and later the same year was the youngest finalist and prize-winner at Tunbridge Wells International competition.
Her extensive concerto repertoire (many performed with orchestras) is complemented with frequent travel to International Music Festivals where she has enjoyed chamber music and classes with numerous Masters – most recently with Ivry Gitlis and Philippe Graffin at IMS Prussia Cove in Cornwall, UK; and with the 2015 Verbier Festival Academy, Switzerland.
In September 2015, Tatjana won a President’s Distinction Award scholarship to study at New England Conservatory, Boston with Professor Miriam Fried. Thanks to the most generous support of a London benefactor and by kind arrangement with Florian Leonhard Fine Violins, Tatjana plays a G.B. Guadagnini violin (the “ex-Kavakos” ) made in Turin, c.1785.
