Tatyana Stepanova, Piano
Biography
Tatyana Stepanova is a noted performer and teacher, praised by the Chicago Tribune as a “fine” and “persuasive” pianist. After winning first prize in the Russian National Piano Competition in 1981, Ms. Stepanova taught piano at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory for nearly a decade before moving to Chicago.
She was educated at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory (Kiev, Ukraine) and Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory of Music (St. Petersburg, Russia). Ms. Stepanova’s concert appearances in Chicago include Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts; live WFMT broadcasts with the Heritage Trio; Rush Hour Concerts at St. James Cathedral; and performances with the Storioni Ensemble.
An active chamber musician, Ms. Stepanova has performed with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera Orchestra, and Chicago Chamber Musicians. Ms. Stepanova also enjoys an active career as a teacher. Since 2001, she has been on the faculty at Midwest Young Artists (MYA), teaching the sonata class and coaching chamber groups, and serves as a faculty member at the Academy of the Music Institute of Chicago.
