Biography
Canadian violinist Timothy Chooi is currently enrolled at the Curtis Institute of Music, studying with Ida Kavafian. At age 16, he captured the grand prize of the 71st Montreal Symphony Orchestra Standard Life Competition, earning him numerous concert engagements, including his debut with the host orchestra under Jean-François Rivest. He has since returned as a soloist with the ensemble under the baton of Kent Nagano. Timothy has also collaborated with the National Arts Centre Orchestra under Pinchas Zukerman, the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra, Moritzburg Academy Orchestra in Germany, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Philharmonia, Santa Barbara Symphony, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Edmonton Symphony, Montreal Chamber Orchestra, Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestras of the Americas. As the winner of the Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank Competition, Timothy is currently using a 1729 Guarneri del Gesu. Timothy was born in Victoria, British Columbia.
