Biography
Tatiana Goldfarb (1914 - 1964)
Tatiana Goldfarb
was born in Odessa, a city with a flourishing musical life.[1] She studied piano at the Odessa Conservatory
with Berta Reingbald. Upon graduating
in 1932, she became a soloist with the Odessa Philharmonic organization; she
held the same position with the Kiev Philharmonic from 1935 to 1938.
In 1937, she won a prize at the 3rd
International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. Between 1935 and 1938, she continued her
post-graduate studies in Kiev with Abram Lufer, and
from 1939 to 1941 - at the Moscow Conservatoire with Heinrich Neuhaus.
She appeared as a soloist
throughout the Soviet Union. She loved
playing Chopin, although her repertoire also included Classical standards and
some contemporary Soviet music, especially by Ukrainian and Georgian composers.
Goldfarb taught at the Tbilisi
Conservatory from 1958 until her death in 1964.
Our library has three performances
by Tatiana Goldfarb, all by Frederic Chopin: Ecossaise Op. 72 and two etudes in
G-flat Major, Op. 10 No. 5 and Op.25 No.9.
All three were recorded in 1937.
