Perhaps best known for his works written for the organ, Charles-Marie Widor wrote this suite for flute and piano for his colleague and the figurehead of the French Flute School, Paul Taffanel who premiered it in 1884. The third movement, the lyrical Romance was also used in 1885 in the incidental music that Widor composed for Le Conte d’avril, modified from Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.Catherine Gregory
