Biography

One of the leading clarinetists of his generation, Alexander Fiterstein is a first-prize winner of the Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition and the Young Concert Artist International Auditions (YCA). He appeared with the Orchestra of St. Luke's at Lincoln Center, the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Polish Chamber Philharmonic, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony, the Tokyo Philharmonic, and the China National Symphony Orchestra. In recital, Mr. Fiterstein has appeared on the Music at the Supreme Court Series, at the National Gallery of Art, the Kennedy Center, the 92nd Street Y, Carnegie's Weill Hall, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Louvre in Paris, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and the Tel-Aviv Museum.

Mr. Fiterstein was a member of the prestigious Chamber Music Society II of Lincoln Center (2004-2006). He participated in the Marlboro Music Festival for four summers and toured with Musicians from Marlboro. During the 2007-08 season he performed with the KBS Symphony in Korea, Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Paris Trio in Miami, and with the Jerusalem Quartet at the 92nd Street Y. This season he recorded Paul Schoenfield's new clarinet trio and performed Ronn Yedidia's Concertino which was written for him. Fiterstein performed as principal clarinet of the West East Divan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim, and has appeared as guest principal with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

Alexander Fiterstein was born in Belarus. At the age of two, he immigrated with his family to Israel where he later studied at the Israel Arts and Science Academy. He graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy and the Juilliard School. A recipient of the Bunkamura Orchard Hall Award in Tokyo, he was also a first prize winner of the Aviv competition in Israel. He received awards from the America-Israel cultural foundation from 1991 to 2001. His teachers include Charles Neidich and Eli Heifetz.
