Biography
Canadian pianist Christine Yoshikawa has established herself on the international stage as one of Canada's exciting young pianists of her generation. Her performances have garnered international acclaim and critics have praised her as a pianist of "pure power" (South Bend Tribune), "remarkable endurance, refinement, precision and authority", and "radiant lyricism, elegance and warmth" (The Observer).
The prizewinner of numerous national and international competitions, Ms. Yoshikawa's performing career has included performances in New York, Boston, Chicago, Madrid, Paris, Munich, Prague, Sofia, and Toyko, among others. Currently on the roster for Eroica Classical Recordings, her performances are archived at the Canadian Music Centres across Canada, at Amsterdam's Muziekgebouw, and broadcast on national radio across North America and
abroad.
A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, she began her piano studies at age two with her mother and furthered studies
with Arthur Rowe and Jane Coop at the University of Victoria and University of British Columbia. She made her concerto debut at age nine, and was awarded a full scholarship to study with the late Gyorgy Sebok of Indiana University at the Banff Centre of the Arts. Further studies included at the prestigious Toradze Institute at Indiana University South Bend with Alexander Toradze. Ms. Yoshikawa received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University as a pupil of renowned American pianist and pedagogue Robert Hamilton.
